Itinerary

DAY 1           TULUM
Upon arrival at Tulum International Airport, pick up your rental vehicle at the rental counter of the rental company you have booked. Follow the instructions on your reservation voucher. Enjoy a free night to enjoy the city's famous nightlife. Overnight stay.

DAY 2           TULUM – BACALAR 206 KM 2 hrs
Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning, you can visit the Tulum archaeological site and its iconic beaches. Then, head to Bacalar Lagoon, also known as the "Lagoon of 7 Colors." Thanks to the contrasting soil and its different levels, its waters reflect seven shades of blue. This lagoon also has an open-air cenote with a depth of 90 meters. You will have the opportunity, if you wish, to take a motorboat ride (CLOSED ON WEDNESDAYS), the best way to discover all the colors this lagoon has to offer. Don't miss a visit to the town of Bacalar, a traditional village where you will find mainly wooden handicrafts and traditional handmade clothing: huipiles. Don't forget to visit the walls of the "Fort of San Felipe," which offers a beautiful view of the lagoon.
Overnight stay.

DAY 3           BACALAR – VALLADOLID 265 KM 3.30 HRS
After breakfast we recommend booking some water activities in the lagoon to continue with your next destination to the town of Valladolid, On your way you can make a short visit to the ruins of Chacchoben or the charming historic village of Tihosuco, Valladolid is a city built to pay tribute to the city of Valladolid in Spain. Around Valladolid you will find cenotes (natural freshwater pools) where you can swim, we recommend the Samula and Xkeken cenotes. Next, marvel at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, one of the new wonders of the world. This site is undoubtedly the most famous in the Mayan world. The Mayans had an important knowledge of astrology; they built the most important pyramid of Chichen Itza in alignment with the Sun, so that on the day of the spring equinox can be observed through a set of shadows, the god Kukulkan (the feathered serpent) descends the stairs of the pyramid. In the afternoon, head to Merida. Its cuisine is distinct from traditional Mexican cuisine, having been influenced by the local indigenous culture, as well as Caribbean, Mexican, European, and Middle Eastern flavors.
Accommodation

DAY 4           VALLADOLID – CHICHEN ITZA 53 km 1 hr – MERIDA 123 km 1 hr 40 min
Breakfast at the hotel. We recommend starting the day with a visit to the market, sniffing the aroma of freshly picked fruits and vegetables from the local gardens. Afterward, you can stroll through the main square and its streets or visit the shops. Then, drive to Chichen Itza and marvel at this archaeological site, one of the new wonders of the world. This site is undoubtedly the most famous in the Mayan world. The Mayans had a significant knowledge of astrology; they built the most important pyramid at Chichen Itza in alignment with the Sun, so that on the day of the spring equinox, the god Kukulkan (the feathered serpent) can be seen descending the pyramid's steps through a series of shadows. We recommend cooling off in the Ikkil cenote and eating at its Yucatecan buffet restaurant. In the afternoon, head to Mérida. Its cuisine is distinct from traditional Mexican cuisine, having been influenced by the local indigenous culture, as well as Caribbean, Mexican, European, and Middle Eastern flavors.
Accommodation

DAY 5           MÉRIDA- UXMAL (1 hr) – UXMAL – CAMPECHE (2 HRS)  (249 KM/3H)
Breakfast at the hotel. After a stroll through the streets of downtown Merida, take the road to Uxmal, the most important Mayan site in the Puuc region. Here you can admire Mayan sculptures, as well as an impressive 39 m high pyramid.
In the afternoon, continue to Campeche. This city has a rich naval history and its architecture is Baroque in style. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. This fortification, the Fort of San Miguel, houses a Mayan archaeology museum. Artisans from this state make comfortable hammocks, delicate works of bull horn, straw hats of various shapes, among many other wonders that can be found in the shops of the city center. Overnight stay.

DAY 6           CAMPECHE – BECAL  – IZAMAL 245 km   3 hrs
Breakfast at the hotel. Take the road to Becal, the land of hats, world-renowned for the production and craftsmanship of Jipi Japa palm hats, where Mayan artisans skillfully weave palm fibers to create beautiful hats in a highly artisanal manner. Then continue to Izamal, known as the City of Three Cultures, where the vestiges of its pre-Hispanic origins, the imprint of its colonial past, and the harmony of its present coexist.
The Convent of San Antonio de Padua has the largest enclosed atrium (made up of 75 arches) in the Americas and the second largest in the world after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
All the houses, shops, and churches here are painted golden yellow, and the town has been nicknamed The Yellow City. Izamal was an important Mayan religious center, and today you can visit the archaeological sites of four large pyramids that dominate the center of town. Climb to the top of the Kinich Kak pyramid.
Overnight stay.

DAY 7           IZAMAL – RIO LAGARTOS – CANCUN (429 KM/5H)
Breakfast at the hotel. Take the road to Rio Lagartos (161 km, 2 hrs). This beautiful fishing port offers peace and tranquility, but also offers adventure and fun, as it is home to the Biosphere Reserve, which protects the flora and fauna of the area.
One of the attractions of Rio Lagartos are the flamingos that come to feed and nest in the Biosphere Reserve. They offer a beautiful spectacle when they arrive in large flocks, painting the sky pink. You can take a tour where they will gladly take you to visit these extraordinary birds.
The tour begins when you board a boat (not included) that will take you through large expanses of estuary where all kinds of birds find refuge to nest and feed. Throughout the area, you'll see four types of mangroves: red, black, white, and buttonwood. Here you can see white herons, pelicans, cormorants, ospreys, and storks. You can often spot crocodiles basking in the sun on the shores.
Upon returning, we recommend eating at the restaurants in this fishing village and continuing on to Cancún (240 km, 3 hours).

DAY 8           CANCUN-TULUM
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Tulum Airport for your return flight. Return your rental car.
